About ASBC Arbor Small Business Consultants was started in 2007 by Sheila Layla Ritter Ananda. Layla has been working in and with small businesses since the mid-1970's. She has twice served as the CEO of small businesses: in the early 80's as Executive Director of the North American Students of Cooperation (a trade association for housing, worker and, at that time, consumer cooperatives), and from 2000 to 2007 as General Manager of the Inter-Cooperative Council (owner of 19 student cooperative houses in Ann Arbor, Michigan). As CEO, Layla was responsible for managing full and part time employees, as well as numerous volunteers, assisting and advising the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Recruitment Committee and Diversity Committee, budgeting and fiscal oversight of a $2 million budget, grant writing and administration, long and short range planning, community relations and networking, and providing advice and assistance. Layla has also served on Boards of Directors of a number of small businesses, including President of Campus Cooperative Development Corporation, President of Circle Pines Center, Treasurer of Gateways Center for Life Enrichment and Property Committee Chair of Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council. In addition, she has started and operated her own small businesses, Becananda Music and ChangeWorks Consulting and Therapy Center (now Deep Peace Counseling Services). Since 1980, Layla has traveled throughout the US and Canada to provide training and consulting services to numerous small businesses. Click here to see Sheila Layla Ritter Ananda's resume.
